Xplore Japan: Nagasaki!
Nagasaki (長崎) is an attractively situated port city on the island of Kyushuand the capital of Nagasaki Prefecture.
As one of Japan's closest port cities to the Asian mainland, Nagasaki has played a prominent role in foreign trade relations for many centuries and was the most important of only a very few ports open to restricted numbers of foreign traders during Japan's period of isolation. In more recent history, Nagasaki became the second city after Hiroshima to be destroyed by an atomic bomb towards the end of World War II
Today i going to tell you Top 3 places to visit, reviews and The History of the places at The Historic Nagasaki City!
First there is Gunakanjima.Gunkanjima is a small island located about 20 kilometers from NagasakiPort. Until 1974, the island served as a coal mine, and more than 5000 residents called the 480 meter long, 150 meter wide island home, resulting in the highest population density in history recorded worldwide.
To accommodate so many people in such a small area, every piece of land was built up so that the island came to resemble a massive battleship. In fact, "Gunkanjima" is a nickname that means "battleship island" in Japanese. The island's formal name is Hashima. In April 2009, however, a newly constructed boat dock made it possible for sightseeing tour boats to land on Gunkanjima. Tour participants are taken to three observation decks in a small part on the southern end of the island and spend about 45 minutes on the island with Japanese speaking tour guides. Tours do not involve getting too close to the buildings because of the risk of collapse. The boat ride between Nagasaki and Gunkanjima is also enjoyable. Boats take about 50 minutes one way, and pass large Mitsubishi ship building factories and other islands along the way. The ride also allows for some nice views of the city of Nagasaki and its port from the water.
Second there is Nagasaki Peace Park. The Nagasaki Peace Park is a tranquil space that commemorates the atomic bombing of Nagasaki on August 9, 1945, which destroyed a significant portion of the city and killed ten thousands of inhabitants. The complex is comprised of two parks and a memorial museum.
In the center of the complex is the Hypocenter Park with a simple, black monolith that marks the explosion's epicenter. Not far from it stands a damaged pillar of the former Urakami Cathedral which was destroyed in the blast. Furthermore, there is an area that allows visitors to take a look at a layer of soil below the park's surface where broken roof tiles, bricks and pieces of glass remain from the explosion. On the hill above the Hypocenter Park stands the sobering Nagasaki Atomic Bomb Museum with the mission to inform future generations about the horror of war. Next to the museum stands a memorial hall for the victims of the atomic bomb with a strikingly modern architecture. The hall is located mainly underground and its design involves water and light
Last but not least there is Huis Ten Bosch. The Huis Ten Bosch (ハウステンボス, Hausu Ten Bosu) is a theme park in Nagasaki Prefecture which recreates a Dutch town. It is named after one of the residences of the Dutch Royal Family. The spacious resort is suffused with a European atmosphere with its picturesque canals, iconic windmills, beautiful gardens and architecture.
Seasonal flowers further enhance the attractiveness of the scenery. Visitors can have a good time indulging in the view, enjoying the many attractions, savoring a meal at one of the many restaurants or relaxing in a leisure boat touring the canals. Various events also take place at different times of the year, for example, a tulip festival during spring and a fireworkscompetition in the summer.
The resort is divided into two areas: the Theme Park Zone and the Harbor Zone. Both zones feature multiple free and paid attractions, although the majority of them are located in the Theme Park Zone. Regular admission tickets grant entry to both zones, but there is also a special ticket for 1000 yen for admission to just the Harbor Zone. The Theme Park Zone houses various amusements in the buildings of its reproduced Dutch old town. Many of them are modern theaters featuring 3D technology and the like. There is also a haunted house, mirror maze, Ferris Wheel and a replica of the Domtoren (Dom Tower) of Utrecht with panoramic views from its observation deck. The Harbor Zone's main attractions are a theater and a replica of the Palace Huis Ten Bosch, which houses an art museum
